You’ve gone through the self-discovery process and now you know who you are and exactly what you want. Ah, the Freedom!
You close your eyes to see your dream painted so clearly in your mind that you can feel the success as if you’ve already obtained it. Woohoo, the Excitement!
Then, you slowly open your eyes, realizing that your current reality looks far different from the vision you’ve created in your mind. (Beware of the overwhelm factor in this phase) A sense of panic creeps in. You start to feel discouraged as to how far you are from your desired life.
I want to write a best-selling book…YES!
But, where the hell do I begin?…YIKES!
Well, for starters, breathe in the words of Lao Tzu, “The journey of a thousand miles, begins with one step.”
Drowning in overwhelm will do nothing but cause a massive headache, forcing you to lay down and as a result get absolutely nothing done!
We know that Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is your beautiful dream. But, the way to build it is to start laying one brick after the other.
Break up your big goal into manageable parts. Then, break those parts up into smaller parts. Keep doing this until each task seems so easy, it’ll make your eyes roll.
Just lay a brick- wherever you are.
You don’t need to wait until you’ve saved $10,000. You don’t need to wait until you have a fancy office space. You don’t need to wait until you feel ready. You are ready, right now! Trying to achieve ideal conditions will prevent you from taking that first step (the hardest and most important step).
If your wish is to start your own non-profit, then start organizing your ideas, start a blog, read a book on the topic, reach out to similar organizations, join a group with similar interests, purchase a pen to start writing with- any teeny tiny step that moves you forward.
The key here is to make your visions a reality, no matter what your current circumstances are. Don’t talk yourself out of something that you were born to do.
With each brick you lay, you build evidence of your dream in the world.
As the evidence builds, your confidence grows and your momentum increases. This is the cycle you want to be in.
Look for the possibilities where you are and you will find them. Look for all the reasons why you can’t start and you will find them.
Whatever we seek, we find. The Universe is very generous to people living out their calling. If you’re on the right path, you’ll find the resources you need at the right time. Trust this enough to take the first step.
You’re the only thing standing in the way of you and your dreams. Stop making excuses and in the words of Steven Pressfield, “Put your ass where your heart is.”
