When You’re Scared of the Future…

May 11, 2016 | Written with Love By: Shaina Leis

en years ago, I was terrified of what the future held. Mainly because I had no idea what I was doing with my life. I thought, “If my present is an indicator of what my future will look like, I’m in big trouble.

What a difference a decade can make!

I’ve never been so excited about the “unknown” before. And I use quotations there because when you hone in on your gifts and have a clear vision for your future, the ambiguity begins to fade.

In today’s video, I wanted to share some quick tips on how to go from feeling afraid to feeling completely enthusiastic and liberated about the mysterious future.

Your power is in the here and now. If you want to create a great future, you must start by creating a great present.

Hey guys. Welcome back, Happy Wednesday! If this is your first time here, I’m Shaina.

Today’s topic is “when you’re scared of the future…” (ooooh sound effect). About 10 years ago, I was pretty terrified of the unknown, but now I’m not fearful of it at all. I’ve really flipped the coin so I’m going to share with you HOW I did it and how you too can start feeling exhilarated about your future.

If you’re feeling scared when you think about the future, there’s a couple of things going on. Overall, you’re buying into a lot of fears of what’s to come that your mind is conjuring up. You’re afraid that you’ll keep repeating the same, negative cycles forever. You’re looking at all the “bad” things in your life right now and think, it’ll never change or even get worse. Right? I’m single, I’m never going to find the one.

If this is the space you’re in, just stop it. Because what happens is you become a self-fulfilling prophecy…and you will create that ugly future that you’re so terrified of. Believe you me.

For example, let’s say I’m scared that I will never be successful (whatever success means to you). What happens when I feel nervous or scared? My creativity gets blocked, I retreat, I don’t take action. And what’s the result? Drum roll (sound effect). I’m not successful. Fear will eat you up and spit you out my friends. You must get a handle on it and manage it.

Here are my quick tips on HOW to go from feeling like a scaredy cat (meow) to feeling completely enthusiastic about what’s ahead.

1.) Set goals. Work toward something you’re truly passionate about.

When I was in my early twenties, I was nervous for my future because I had no direction, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. When you’re in that space, it’s easy to live from a place of fear.

Once, I identified my dream and created a plan of where I wanted to go, the future became my friend. When you have a clear vision, the future becomes less uncertain, because in a sense, you already know what’s going to happen… You can see it in your mind. There’s less guessing. This is a fantastic place to be in.

2.) Trust in a higher power. God. The Universe. Something much bigger than you is on your side. Do your part- get your mind working with you, find and follow your bliss and then, let the higher force guide you. Know you’re being taken care in the process of living an authentic life.

3.) Open yourself up with a powerful belief and mantra. I came across a mantra the other day that inspired this video actually. It was “I wonder what’s going to happen next?” When I say this, it creates a feeling of childlike wonder and excitement. And it opens you up to the possibilities in store for you. Unlike fear, that closes you off the possibilities completely.

Some of my other favorites are, “The best is yet to come and great things are going to happen.” (display on screen) I love these. I use them in every area of my life.

Once you develop a strong, positive belief system that you’re going to be more than OK, and you’re going to achieve everything you dream of (as you work toward it), you will not be scared anymore. You’ll feel excited about where your career is headed or who you’ll end up. And when you feel excited, you create and take inspired action.

The best way to predict your future is to create it. And the way to create a great future, is by creating an awesome present.

Let that marinate.

That’s it for today guys. If you like what you see, remember to give this video a thumbs up, subscribe if you haven’t already and I’ll see you next week. Bye!
